Auditions for UAPB Marching Band begins January 25


PINE BLUFF, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Music Department will be having open auditions for the Marching Band (known as M4 – Marching Musical Machine of the Midsouth) on the following dates:  Jan. 25, Feb. 22, Mar. 29, Apr. 12, Apr. 26, and May 17.

The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff marching band was founded in 1946 by Ms. Alma L Brown (then AM&N College) and has been directed by others such as the late Harold Strong and Odie Burrus.  Mr. John R. Graham, Jr. is the current director of bands and was appointed as director in 1994.  Under his leadership, the band has grown to be one of the largest and most respected complete band programs in the southern region and nation.  The band has made many notable performances including: performing for the Super Bowl Champions St. Louis Rams (2000) and President Barack Obama’s first presidential inauguration parade (2009).


With full scholarships available, interested students will need to perform the following on their respective instrument:

All Woodwinds and Brass
1.       Play all 12 major scales (2 octaves) where possible
2.       Some minor scales
3.       A chromatic scale (starting on your lowest pitch and play two octaves).
4.       A prepared piece (all region/all state/all city audition music or an etude).

Percussion
1.       Know all 40 standard rudiments (snare drum)
2.       Play all 12 major scales (2 octaves) on a mallet instrument (marimba, xylophone or bells)
3.       Some minor scales
4.       A chromatic scale (either C or F 2 octaves)
5.       A snare solo
6.       A mallet solo
7.       A timpani solo (optional)
