Renowned Jazz Vocalist Christin Foley To Perform With UAM's Jazz Band I April 19

MONTICELLO, AR — Renowned jazz vocalist Christin Foley will perform with the University of Arkansas at Monticello's Jazz Band I in a free public concert April 19 at 7:30 p.m. in the UAM Fine Arts Center auditorium.

A member of the U.S. Air Force for 15 years, Foley has performed as a lead vocalist for Air Force bands all over the world, providing entertainment for troops in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and performing for, among others, the President of the United States, Secretary of State and Secretary of Defense.

She was featured on CBS's Entertainment Tonight with the Missouri Air National Guard Band and has performed with George Duke, Ron Carter, Rita Coolidge, Gene Simmons, Kool & the Gang, Larry Gatlin & the Gatlin Brothers, and The Count Basie Orchestra's Doug Lawrence and Butch Miles.

Foley is a recipient of the Colonel Finley R. Hamilton Outstanding Military Musician Award. As a student at Western Michigan University, she performed with WMU's award-winning jazz vocal ensemble "Gold Company" and sang with Bobby McFerrin, Mel Torme and Daron Meader of the "New York Voices." She won two Downbeat Magazine student awards for "Outstanding Jazz Vocal Performance" and "College Jazz Vocal Group."

Jazz Band I, directed by Jason Smith, is UAM's premier jazz ensemble. The group has toured China and performed at the prestigious Elmhurst Jazz Festival.
