The Drew County Historical Society is hosting a book signing on February 19 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Drew County Museum. The newly released A Haunted Love Story: The Ghosts of the Allen House by Mark Spencer will be on sale for $16.00. In homage to the mid-February holiday that celebrates love stories, the book signing will have a Valentine’s Day theme. Refreshments will be served and those in attendance are encouraged to tour the historic Cavaness house which serves as the Drew County Museum. The book Images of America: Monticello will also be for sale.
Mark and Rebecca Spencer and their children have lived in the famously haunted Allen House since 2007. In 2009, Mark Spencer discovered a hidden stash of over 80 love letters under a floorboard in the attic. The letters document the tragic love story of the best known member of the Allen family, Ladell Allen Bonner. The letters also inspired Spencer to write a book about Ladell's story and how the tragic ending of her life defines the historic Allen House today.
