A Brother's Tribute to Jerry Watts

By Glen Watts

I realized at a very young age that I was growing up with a "legend", my brother, Jerry Watts.

As we were growing up it didn't take very long to realize that Jerry was very special.  It didn't matter if it was swimming, baseball, football, or basketball, Jerry excelled in just about everything he was interested in.

Jerry was very fortunate to have some great role modes, such as our father and mother, great coaches, teachers, and family.

In football, Jerry was great as defensive back, tight end, and even as kicker and field goals.  He usually won the hardest hit award in most games.  He was a great leader to his teammates.  On the football field I remember the hits that Jerry made on the opponent could be heard outside the stadium.  We all knew early on that Jerry was very special.

In basketball, his no look, behind the back, passes were just one of his great talents.  His jump shot was very smooth, also.  He reminded me of "Pistol Pete Maravitch." In college I was fortunate enough to play basketball two yers with my brother.  It was like a dream come true.  Thanks, Jerry, for those wonderful memories.

Jerry was blessed to have so many great teammates in all of the sports in which he he partook.

"Jerry Watts Legend of the Fall."

Growing up with a brother like Jerry was very special.  Our parents both worked very hard to make ends meet.  So, I had to tag long with my big brother to all of his friends homes.  I'm sure it was a hassle for him and his friends, but not for me, because my brother was my idol!

My big brother is very intelligent, good looking, and one of the best all around athletes that I have ever been around.  I tried to mimic his no look passes and his fantastic jump shot, but just never even got close to his unbelievable talent on or off of the field.

Jerry is such a fast learner, though, both physically and mentally and just an all-around great friend, as well as a great brother.

I remember sometime we would play pickup basketball games t the Y and beat guys several years our senior.  I wasn't half the athlete my brother was, but he would always include me as we were growing up.

These few words that I am conveying to you at this moment in our lives is but a tip of the iceberg.  Thank you, Jerry for always being My Big Brother.

In conclusion, I would like to thank my sisters, Shari and LaDonna.  They have spent so much time taking care of Jerry in these trying times.  Jerry and I love you more than words can express.
