Greek Organizations Make Charitable Donations

          MONTICELLO, AR — Fraternities and sororities at the University of Arkansas at Monticello donated more than 500 cans of food, made 300 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and donated 50 blankets for premature babies to an assortment of charities as part of Greek Week 2017, according to Rebecca Nugent, director of student programs and activities.
          Greek organizations donated the canned food to Hope Place and Immanuel Baptist Church, made sandwiches for the Monticello Boys and Girls Club, and presented blankets to the March of Dimes as part of their commitment to community service.
          Greek Week is an annual event that includes a weeklong competition is a variety of events, including the Greek Olympics. A Greek Week banquet was held as the final event of the week where awards were presented to Kappa Alpha Psi and Alpha Sigma Alpha (highest grade point average), Sigma Sigma Sigma (Greek Service Award), Sigma Tau Gamma and Sigma Sigma Sigma (Most Involved Award and Overall Winner).
          Zachary Birdsong of DeQueen, a member of Phi Lambda Chi fraternity, was named Greek of the Year. Bryson Berry of Hamburg, a member of Sigma Tau Gamma, received the Greek God Award while Corin Reed of White Hall, a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma, was named Greek Goddess.
