Tuesday, March 28th, salinerivewrchronicle.com was called and invited to come by the Bradley County Courthouse and observe a large beehive located in a bush next to First Street on the north side of the courthouse. Upon arriving I found Michelle Carter and John Gavin of the Cooperative Extension Service along with Mark Kilptrick and another member of the media looking at the hive and taking pictures. It was a massive hive of bees.
Mr. Kilpatrick lives in Warren and is very knowledgeable of bees and how to deal with them. He was busy capturing the little guys into a beehive container and plans to carry them to his residence.
According to Mr. Kilpatrick, there appeared to be 3-4 pounds of bees involved with the swarm and he estimated it contained 1000-1500 or more individual bees.
