Warren Student Wins UAM Inaugural T-Shirt Design Contest

MONTICELLO, AR — A t-shirt design by Brittany Barnard of Warren will serve as the official t-shirt of the inaugural celebration of University of Arkansas at Monticello Chancellor Karla Hughes.
Barnard’s design was chosen from 26 entries in a campus-wide student competition and highlights the inaugural theme “Honoring tradition, focusing on the future.” The t-shirts will be given to students at a picnic on Monday, October 17 hosted by Dr. Hughes from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Centennial Clock Tower at the center of campus.
Barnard, who is a junior education major and a member of the Student Ambassadors, plans to donate the $100 prize to the inaugural scholarship fund for student scholarships.
“I appreciate the interest of our students in the competition,” said Dr. Hughes. “I want to thank Brittany for her submission and for her generosity in donating the cash prize back to UAM. I think her gesture is a reflection of the commitment our faculty and staff have to our students and the community. This inaugural celebration isn’t just about me. It’s a celebration of the university, it’s past, present and future.”
Other activities for the week include an inaugural parade around the Monticello square at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 18. The parade will feature student organizations from UAM and participation from local schools and the community. A reception for Chancellor Hughes and Col. L. R. Hughes will be held at the Trotter House at 6:30 p.m. following the parade.
A showcase of the academic work, research and community integration by UAM students, faculty and staff in a wide variety of academic disciplines will be on display Friday, October 21 at 5 p.m. in the atrium of the Taylor Library and Technology Center. An inaugural dinner will follow at 6 p.m. in the John F. Gibson University Center. UAM will honor the 2016 winners of the Alumni Award for Achievement and Merit as well as the Continuing the Connection Award.
